Dayton and Daytona Cosmograph 4130 Winder Recommendations by WatchCases.com.
This series of watches can be a challenge for most winders. The average winder is left spinning in the dust. The Daytona is left unwound and wasted in the sidelines, in the pit row of the back corners of your sock drawer unless you buy the correct winder!
Unlike most of the Rolex family Daytona needs attention and careful winding. It is my understanding that the Daytona has had different movements inside it, despite the name remaining constant on the outside. Therefore reports of the Watches winding requirements vary and therefore to have any assurance what so ever that a watch winder will work for a Daytona you need to buy the correct winder in the first place.
A few Daytona require the typical at least 650 Turns Per Day, which is a common Turn per day setting. However the direction is typically Clockwise. Some Daytona watches require Bi-Directional setting, (which is the most common winder setting) but the turns per day goes as high as 900 Turns Per Day. You see the difficulty?
Most specific brands and models of watch are consistent and easy to research, but Daytona is not so simple. (Then again, it also is not an ordinary watch either!)
It is impossible to obtain the exact information on every Daytona, therefore one needs a flexible watch winder. That is it is critical to purchase a programmable winder that allows you to change from Bi-Directional Winding to Uni-Directional Winding and you need to ensure at least 650 Turns Per Day and probably as high as 900 Turns Per Day...
We think the more expensive watch winders are your best choice for the Daytona, since you can fine tune them to the exact needs, however Eilux makes a very affordable solution if you own mutliple watches which should do the job.
The Buben and Zorweg Watch Winder will also do a wonderful job of winding your Daytona. Note: some reports say a few of the Daytona actually need 950 Turns Per Day, and the Eilux winds about 900 Turns I am not sure if this 50 turns deficit will affect watch performance or not (I think not), typically speaking for most automatic watches and winders "close" is good enough. But like I said Daytona is a tough one. Every now and then (like once a year) someone will say, such and such did not work...We can only take their word for it and not confirm or deny or explain why. Some independent watches are just "finicky", they are after all mechanical devices with moving parts.
So for absolute certainty and flexibility we suggest a fully programmable winder like the Buben and Zorweg Evolution Winder or the Orbita Monaco 3 WatchWinder.
