Donald just returned from Beijing China, where he had the honor of attending an event hosted by Vacheron Constantin. The event was their entry into the exploding Chinese luxury watch market. Vacheron Constantin displayed their antique collection of Chinese Antique Watches and other highly prized antique watches. The event called "Vacheron Constantin China Antique Exhibition Cocktail Reception" was truly amazing according to Donald.

In case you are unfamiliar with
Vacheron Constantin, the company was founded in 1755 as cited by hautehorlogerie.org and is the oldest watch company to have maintained constant production for over 250 years! The company motto is exactly the attitude that we try to promote at WatchCases.com:

"Do better if possible...and it is always possible."

Donald said the collection was “the most amazing display of antique watches that I have ever seen!” Donald’s wife, Mary Sue who attended the event with him, left with an understanding of why people could be “lured into collecting watches!“ Previously her attitude was not so understanding about collecting watches.

The event was on Friday August 18, 2006 in Beijing China. The Vacheron Museum in Geneva brought to China and presented a total of 84 venerable antique watches, brought to Beijing specifically for the event. This was one of the largest antique exhibitions worldwide.

The company refused to release the value of the collection, however Donald noted that his best guess would be in the millions if these were ever released to the public at auction, since many pieces were 1 of a kind and a few were simply in pristine, untouched condition from limited productions. Inspired by Chinese culture and its strong Chinese heritage, 15 historical timepieces from the early 19th century were displayed. Some of which were custom made for China.

The pieces on exhibit ranged from simple to highly complicated. Each watch boasts its own elegant characteristics. Vacheron Constantin has long combined century-old craftsmanship with the latest in horological technology to produce ever-more sophisticated timepieces over the past 250 years.

Donald said the event was quite an extravaganza with Chinese dancers and drummers. There was also a very energetic and enthusiastic talk given by Vacheron Constantin to explain their excitement to have officially now entered the Chinese Luxury Watch Market. During my stay in Beijing I studied a little Mandarin Chinese at Mandarin Focus in Beijing Central Business District. Right across from the Kerry Center Hotel Star Bucks! Great Location for a language school, convenient and easy to access. If you are planning to do business in China, I strongly recommend calling Jun and studying with her at her school Mandarin Focus. She is also a very good contact if you need business assistance or wish to plan some sight seeing.
