Which watches are the easiest to wind? What do you recommend?

The easiest watches to wind are watches with movements needing bi-directional winding.(Like most Rolex watches) If you have a bi-directional winding watch any of our winders will do the job and you can shop strictly by price, looks, or any other criteria that is important to you. These Winders are good for bidirectional movements and/or less than 900 TPD one direction wound watches. (Note: Rolex Daytona and a few Rolex Submariner models require unidirectional winding or higher turns per day than the standard Rolex movement. These are very hard to wind and you should use a fully programmable winder for them.)

There are 3 levels of programmability.
  • Luxury Winders with fully programmable full function watch winders. (Most Expensive) These can program for both directions and revolutions or turns, called Turns Per Day(TPD). From low of 3-600 to a high of 1,300. They are expensive but will wind every watch made!
  • Partially Programmable Winders. (Best Price Point) Generally completely programmable for directional settings usually with a fixed turns per day cycle of 900 TPD. (900 Turns per day is a perfect setting for 85% to 95% of all Automatic watches.) The Chronographs and most Breitlings will not wind with this style winder. Daytona by Rolex will not stay wound either (largely because of their high TPD requirement).
  • The Revolutionary Sparta Winders with their "Self Programming" RotorWind motor system. These Winders take the trial and error and research effort out of winding watches. They operate on pendulum motion and wind virtually all watches with no fuss or effort. We call it the Easy Winder because it is so easy to use. However, these can only wind watches needing 900 TPD or less. The Chronographs will not wind with this style winder, nor will most Breitlings. Daytona by Rolex will not stay wound either, largely because of their high TPD requirement.
Fixed Motion Watch Winders are winders that wind the same way all the time, which is bidirectional in nature.

Partially Programmable Watch Winders--Allow change of Direction but not adjustable Turns per Day. These winders typically wind up to 900 Turns Per Day, which works for 95% of the watch movements on the market and is usually a good choice unless you own a Chronograph or other high TPD movement.
Fully Programmable Winders--allow direction changes and allow you to crank up the turns per day beyond the standard 900 TPD limit. Most watches will wind at 900TPD, but the high end watches will need to be cranked up with a fully programmable watch winder!
